The Waning Moon is the moon that is getting smaller, it is moving toward the New Moon from the Full Moon. A Waning Moon is a good time to cast banishing spells and to bring an end to bad decisions or stages in one’s life (such as addictions or unhealthy relationships).
The New Moon is the moon that is barely visible, it is moving towards the Waxing Moon from the Waning Moon. The New Moon is said to be a good time to cast “dark” spells, although any true Wiccan wouldn’t cast spells to harm others. New Moons are also said to be a good time to cast similar spells to that of the Waning Moon, except it is more powerful because of this particular phase.
The Waxing Moon is the moon that grows into the Full Moon, when the moon is in this state it is good to use spells related to attraction e.g. love, wealth, job opportunities etc. or anything that is to be increased or grown.
The Full Moon is the moon at it’s largest point, between the Waxing and Waning Moons. Full Moons occur 12-13 times a year and are celebrated by Wiccans to give thanks to the Goddess. These celebrations are known as “Esbats” which are much like Sabbats but are more so based on the Goddess rather than the God. Full Moons are used predominantly for ritual and spells used at this phase are said to be more powerful (e.g. healing spells).
Happy Spellcasting and Blessed Be.
